Art Waltzer
Obituary: Dr. Arthur Waltzer, 81,
lifelong resident of Tampa died on Saturday, February 17, 2018. After
graduating, Gorrie Elementary, Wilson Middle, and Plant High Schools,
Dr. Waltzer attended Vanderbuilt University and Medical School and was
a member of AEPi fraternity.
He completed his Chief Surgical residency at the University of Cincinnati
and served as a MASH Surgeon in Vietnam as a Captain in the U.S. Army.
He later returned to his native Tampa and had a distinguished career practicing
general and vascular surgery for over 35 years, served as Chief of Surgery
at University Community Hospital and taught surgical residents at USF
College of Medicine.
He was active in many professional organizations including past president
of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons was a former
member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom and member of Congregation Schaarai
Zedek. Survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Rose (Ree) Waltzer; sons
and daughter-in-law, Garrett Waltzer, Adam and Shige Waltzer, and Dr.
Joel Waltzer; daughter, Megan Waltzer; and grandchildren, Jeremy, Isaac,
Leo, Suzanne, Rachel, Zoe, and Jake.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, at 10:00 a.m.,
at Congregation Schaarai Zedek, 3303 West Swann Avenue, Tampa. In lieu
of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of ones
